How can I visually explain situations where one thing changes based on another?

  • From using graphs tables, graphs and reports you can get a whole story.
  • Disadvantages of one of them can be advantages for the other. For example in a graph it is sometimes hard to read the exact number, but in a table is easy to read the exact number.

A. How much profit will be made if 10 customers go on the tour? 25 customers? 40 customers?
-10 customers -> about $150
-25 customers -> about $390
-40 customers -> about $600

  1. How many customers are needed for the partners to earn a $200 profit? A $500 profit? A $600 profit?
-$200 profit -> about 15 customers
-$500 profit -> about 35 customers
-$600 profit -> about 40 customers
  1. How does the profit change as the number of customers increase? How is this pattern shown on the graph?
-As the number of customers increase they make more profit. This is shown on the graph since the coordinates keep going higher.
  1. If the tour operator reduced their expenses but kept the price at $350, how would this change the graph?
-They will make more profit since they are spending less money but earning the same amount.

Follow Up

In the profit graph, points at the intersection of two grids lines, such as (20,300) and (40,600), are easy to read. Use the “easy to read” points to figure out what the profit would be if only 1 customer went on the tour. How about 2 customers? 3 customers? 100 customers? Describe, in words, the estimated number of any customers.

-Since the profit they made when 10 customers went to the tour, was about $150, I divided this number by 10 to get the profit they would make for 1 customer. $15. After that I multiplied the number by 2 to get the profit they would make for 2 customers. $30. I did the same for 3 and 100 customers. If you multiply 3 by 15 you will get 45. If you multiply 100 by 15 you will get 1500. So to find the profit in this data, all you have to do is multiply the number of customers by 15.
